There’s also easy walking access to the B, C, and D branches of the green line for travel into the city.
Directly across from the Waterworks is the Chestnut Hill Reservation, a preserved open space that serves as a back-up water supply for the City of Boston and offers multiple walking trails, a variety of trees and shrubs, and a myriad of bird species. The Chestnut Hill Reservation was constructed in the 19th century and considered by many to be a winning trifecta of calculated engineering, calculated urban planning and innovative landscape design. The Reservation is a landmark in the City of Boston and registered as a Historic Place on the National Register of Historic Places. Most importantly, it’s more than just a nice place to admire, the Chestnut Hill Reservoir is great for running, jogging, walking your dog, and, depending on the season, skating or swimming at the ice skating rink and the swimming pool.
